September 13, 2013 is a huge milestone and one of my proudest days as a father. Not because my son, Ethan, is an awesome kid with autism… Not because he did so well at his Special Olympics competition last weekend… Not because he will be 10 in 2 months… Today is special because this morning I happened to look down the hall to see him sitting on the potty, and guess what!?! For the first time ever, my son went “poo poo on the potty”!
Some of you may be not only wondering why this is such a big deal, but wondering what kind of parents we are for having a 9 year old boy finally going #2 on the toilet just before he turns 10. But… some of you are also proud for Ethan and either remembering the day your child did the same, or looking forward to the day that your child also will finally embrace the porcelain throne.
Honestly I’m still smiling while I write this, and even though it is something that some people think we should be ashamed of, I want to shout from the mountain “MY SON WENT POO POO ON THE POTTY!!!”
